Sacramento – The Fix Our Roads Coalition, a coalition of local government, business, labor, transit and transportation advocates, issued the following statement after passage of SB 1 and ACA 5, the $52 billion road repair bill and constitutional protection bill. The bills passed both houses of the Legislature tonight:
“We want to thank legislators for doing the right thing and making the important decisions they were elected to make. California voters overwhelmingly want their local roads fixed and SB 1 will deliver funds to every community to make roads safer and improve our transportation infrastructure.
“The plan comes with strict accountability reforms to make sure taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely and new constitutional reforms that give voters the opportunity to ensure these funds can only be used for transportation improvements. In the long run, this package will create family-supporting jobs, will save taxpayers money, and build a better transportation infrastructure that will boost our economy and quality of life.
“Our broad coalition of local officials, business, labor and community groups will stand beside those legislators who voted to make this important investment to fix our roads. We want to give special thanks to Governor Brown and legislative leaders for crafting a package and taking it across the finish line. Now the work of fixing our roads can begin.”
